Character History:
    the enchanted forest

Belle was born in the Enchanted Forest, in the town of Avonlea. She had a loving father and was due to be married, but that all quickly changed. After their town was under attack by the ogres, a war that their town was losing, Belle's father asked a man named Rumplestiltskin for help. Rumplestiltskin granted that wish however with a price - he wanted Belle to go with him to his castle, to stay there forever. Although neither Belle's father nor her fiance wished for her to go Belle agreed to do so, making the deal herself. She refused to let anyone decide her fate for her, and later told Rumplestiltskin her reasons for agreeing to go with him - for bravery. She wanted to do something, do something to show that women could do things too and decided to be brave in hopes that bravery would follow. Belle had always originally wished to see the world, and whilst that may not be possible now she got to do something and something good.

A lot happens to Belle whilst she is in the company of Rumplestiltskin : she sees much of magic, learns to come to the fact that she will never know anyone other but him, and becomes a part in much that Rumplestiltskin does. After a thief attempts to steal from Rumplestiltskin, one that Belle takes pity on and frees, Rumplestiltskin takes her with him to prove to Belle that freeing him was a bad choice - that he is a selfish and greedy man, something that will be ended by his death. Although Rumplestiltskin is seen as a monster to everybody else there is something more in him that Belle sees - the man that he used to be, and the man that she has started getting to know from staying with him (if she could know no one else she requested that she at least know him). Throughout the journey Belle tries to reason with Rumplestiltskin to let the man live, particularly after realising that he's going to be a father. Although Rumplestiltskin seems set on killing him, and almost does, Belle somehow did get through to him, though he refuses to admit that.

She spends the next few months with him getting to know him more, insisting on it. Even though it was Belle's own choice to go with him it doesn't prevent her from being lonely. It isn't just a friendship that Belle finds herself with, though as she begins to fall in love - one that could be shared, if Rumplestiltskin wasn't as much of a coward. On a trip in to town Belle receives a little advice from a stranger. Although Belle doesn't realise that she is the Queen, or if she does knows nothing of her relationship to Rumplestiltskin, it is advice that Belle thinks on, and thus acts on after returning to Rumplestiltskin. She loves him but finds it difficult with his curse, but that changes when she hears of a way to break his curse - with True Love's kiss. Belle tries that and almost succeeds, although Rumplestiltskin's own paranoid and fear of losing his power causes everything to go wrong and he shuns Belle, once again locking her away before removing her from the castle.

Rather than going back home Belle goes out into the world, first meeting someone and advising them on their own love, and later making her own adventures as she has always dreamed. Although Belle doesn't quickly move to doing this, thinking that she may fail, she is pushed to doing so, and armed with her book and her knowledge Belle sets out on the adventure. Although Belle gets herself into a little trouble along the way, and nearly ruins another's attempts at capturing the creature, Belle makes a friend and even succeeds in solving the mystery of the troublesome creature - saving the man that had been cursed into it.

Belle's troubles don't end here however as the Evil Queen, the woman whom had given Belle her love advice previously, captures and imprisons Belle at her palace. Although guarded eventually a man comes to rescue Belle, a pirate named Hook. Although he has come to free her it is for his own gain rather than hers as Hook would see Rumplestiltskin dead, something that Belle will not agree to do.

The last known of Belle prior to the curse is Hook knocking her unconscious, but she did not help Hook as Rumplestiltskin was very much alive after the curse. It is more than likely that Belle was still kept imprisoned in the Evil Queen's palace.

    the dark curse

After the curse is cast Belle's life doesn't improve. The Dark Curse creates a new town for everyone, and new memories. Belle is sadly imprisoned again, this time being a patient in a psychiatric ward, but sadly with no memories of her own - Regina didn't do that for her. The Dark Curse is active for 28 years, and although time is essentially frozen, with everyone's days repeating, the passage of time is known once the curse becomes broken. After Emma Swan arrives in Storybrooke time moves again.

Over the past 28 years that Belle is a patient at the hospital she has had no visitors, barring Regina. Rumplestiltskin believes her to be dead, and no one else has reason to visit. That changes after Emma comes to town, and Regina breaks a promise. A man named Jefferson (The Mad Hatter) visits Belle, freeing her and tells her to find a man named Mr Gold (Rumplestiltskin). Belle does as he says, albeit very confused - and more confused after she meets Rumplestiltskin. After staying with him, promised protection by him, Belle goes out into the woods with her. It is whilst she is here that the curse is broken, and Belle (and everyone else) receives their Enchanted Forest memories.

    the broken curse

After the curse is broken, and Rumplestiltskin brings back magic, a tricky path first begins. Whilst Rumplestiltskin would love to harm Regina for imprisoning Belle she makes him promise not to. That promise doesn't entirely go kept, but Belle trusts in Rumplestiltskin and stays with him - taking the chance here that they couldn't have before. Although things are still rocky, and Rumplestiltskin is still rather closed off, Belle finds a way to make herself a life - everyone else in Storybrooke had one before, and can continue that now except her. At Ruby's suggestion Belle looks to reopening the library, and it is something that works very well with her love of books.

But there is more in store for Belle than simple happiness. After being kidnapped in order to be seen by her father, which at first makes her happy, Belle's life is nearly turned upside down. After a request to stop seeing Mr Gold (which she refuses) Belle is almost sent over the town line, something that would cause her to lose her memories. Although she is saved by Rumplestiltskin she breaks up with him due to being unable to trust him if he can't be honest with her. They later talk after this. Rumplestiltskin helps her to open the library, and he tells her the truth about why magic is in Storybrooke. It is this that lets Belle wish to give him another chance - because he is trying.

When Rumplestiltskin is accused of killing Archie Belle refuses to believe that, and rightly so given that Cora was the one who did so. After the funeral that is held Rumplestiltskin comes and gives Belle some news - he's found a way to cross the Storybrooke border in order to find his son. Belle is thrilled about this, and although she can't go with him she is glad that he'll be able to do something, and find his son - something that he needs to do. If it all went smoothly it wouldn't be Storybrooke, though, and a man named Hook comes to pay Belle a visit - the same man still wishing to kill him. After Hook steals the item that Rumplestiltskin needs to cross the border Belle looks for him, finding him, the shawl and even Archie who wasn't actually dead. Although Belle hears some harsh truths about Rumplestiltskin, including why Hook wishes to kill him, Belle stands by him and urges Rumplestiltskin to leave Hook and to go and find his son. They set off to do this, saying goodbye at the town border but Hook is relentless, and ends up shooting Belle (pushing her over the border) in order to get to Rumplestiltskin.

Although Rumplestiltskin heals Belle's injuries, and gets her to the hospital, Belle has lost all memories of herself and her life. Whilst Belle is in the hospital Ruby tries to help her get her memories back, although when the questions turn to magic (and go unanswered) Belle isn't happy. This changes slightly when Rumplestiltskin returns to Storybrooke and visits Belle, and she's relieved that he didn't die - although disappointed when he refuses to talk about magic also. Rumplestiltskin manages to get Belle discharged, promising to help her regain her memories, but Regina beats him to that - or rather she gives Belle some new, and very false, memories.

Belle, now believing that she is called Lacey, has a life very different from Belle's. Where Belle loves Rumplestiltskin Lacey doesn't, finding his 'nice guy' self boring (the one that Belle liked) but becomes a little interested when Rumplestiltskin becomes a little more violent. They spend time together, Rumplestiltskin hoping to return Belle's real memories to her, and eventually he manages to do so - although his timing isn't quite perfect. With the imminent destruction of Storybrooke possible Rumplestiltskin hoped that he could help return Belle, and lean on her for strength. He manages to do so, and although the timing is terrible she is glad that he was able to help her. He catches her up on what has happened but their reunion is cut short by the fact that Henry has been kidnapped. Although Belle wishes to help she understands when Rumplestiltskin asks her to instead protect the town, and takes his instructions in order to do so. Although they say goodbye as Rumplestiltskin sails off she knows that she'll see him again.

Abilities/Special Powers:
Belle is just a human girl, although a very smart one. She loves reading and has a fantastic memory of the knowledge that she has read. She is capable of using magical items or casting simple spells, but these aren't things that require having your own magic - as (as far as we know) she doesn't have that

Third-Person Sample:
Belle was most definitely lost. There were stairs, and many floors, and although the mansion seemed simply laid out on your first look after walking it you quickly found out that it wasn't so simple. It was certainly bigger, and somehow things seemed to move. The doors were always where the doors had been but either a new corridor appeared but lead nowhere or the stairs weren't where Belle remembered them. She had been turned around for over an hour and was hoping that this current corridor that she was on would take her to the stairs. Other than magic being the answer to this trouble Belle couldn't see how one mansion could be so confusing.

But she didn't know Wonderland. She'd heard stories, even seen a book entitled Alice in Wonderland in her library but that was all she knew of it. This Wonderland, or the one that had been mentioned to her before, both sounded incredibly confusing, but apparently that was what they were meant to be - no one seemed to leave, or stay sane. Belle could sympathise a little with that, although she hadn't been crazy (simple lacking any memories) she'd been imprisoned as such, and sometimes you started to believe it yourself.

Belle refused to let Wonderland defeat her, though. She was strong, and although this place had power she was going to focus on what was important. She was getting back to somewhere that she knew - either the library or her own room. The library was closer in terms of flooring, although if the stairs ever appeared getting to a floor would be a much easier task. If all else failed there was the device, another aid for calling for help, but that would be her last resort. Belle didn't need rescuing, or particularly want it - she wanted to know Wonderland, to try and learn something about it. So far she had learned not to trust it, and it hadn't taken her very long to learn that one. Maybe next time she would have to try and leave herself something to follow back, if the mansion didn't move too much.

Stopping Belle turned back around. The path that she had just come seemed to be the same, and for now she at least knew where that lead. It likely wouldn't be entirely the same at the end of it but it was somewhere to start, somewhere possibly familiar, and that was the motivation for heading back on her steps. Perhaps next time Belle might take someone with her as company and possible help, although it would be worse should they both become lost. Perhaps reading about the place (in whatever she could find) before venturing too deeply into Wonderland could be the better idea. Either way this one set back wasn't going to stop her. She would learn something about Wonderland somehow, and maybe be able to use it.

    video.
I was hoping that someone would be able to help me with something, or maybe do something. I've been looking a lot through the library since I got here- [ Which has only been a few days but she doesn't waste much time, not when information is something that could greatly help them ] -and while it's obvious that there isn't anything on this Wonderland there is a lot. I've seen libraries before and this collection is so vast.

[ She could digress, wonder about the different worlds and places but that would be for another day - another conversation ]

I know that there is probably more going on that could make this a bad idea- [ To other people but never to her ] -but it could be something to help find some normalcy in between everything that happens. I wouldn't ever believe that I'm the only one here that likes reading. So. Would anyone want to get together and either talk about a book or something they know that isn't in a book? Both fiction and non-fiction have a great way of helping us, whether it's giving us a lesson or giving us the information to solve something we couldn't before. It could always help to find something new.

[ As well as keep a little bit of normalcy in their lives. And maybe find some secret words? ]

My name's Belle, just in case anyone is interested.
